The Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball team won their third consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship as they share the honor of Co-Champions with Jackson State University for the 2020-21 season.

Prairie View (14-4) heads into the SWAC tournament sponsored by Cricket Wireless as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 8 seeded Mississippi Valley State on March 10th in Birmingham, Alabama. The Panthers have not lost a game since December 30, 2020 when their record plummeted to 1-4.

They have since then reeled off 13 straight victories in conference play heading into the tournament.

After winning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in 2018-19 season by defeating in-state rival Texas Southern in the championship game, Prairie View had their hopes of defending that title cut short after the 2019-20 SWAC tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Head coach Byron Smith has done some amazing things over the past three seasons at PV. The SWAC Coach of The Year over the past two seasons and will probably secure a third honor after the remarkable play of his team this past season has guided Prairie View to a 44-5 conference record since 2018.

SWAC Tournament games which runs from March 10-13 will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN3 with the Championship Game played on ESPNU.
