Birmingham, AL- Top seeded Prairie View A&M coasted to an easy first-round win against Mississippi Valley State by a score of 91-64 in the Cricket Wireless Southwestern Athletic Tournament. It was the 14th win in a row for the Panthers who have not lost a game since December 2020.

Second Team All-SWAC selection Jawaun Daniels led all scorers with 36 points in the game. The junior shooting guard from Harlem, New York also was hot from beyond the arc going 7-for-12 from three-point range. Teammate and First Team All-SWAC point guard Cam Mack chipped in 13 points and five assists.

The Panthers was too much for the Delta Dogs as they turned up the defensive pressure in the first half holding Mississippi Valley to only 18 points late in the first half as they struggled from the field with only nine made shots in the 20 minutes of play and went into halftime down 51-30.

It was much of the same for the Panthers in the second half as the relentless Daniels continued to display his offensive skill set by hitting nine out of the first 11 points scored. Guard Caleb Hunter led Mississippi Valley in scoring with 17 points, but the deficit was too much for the eighth seeded Delta Dogs to overcome.

Prairie View will now await the winner of the Grambling State vs Southern University game that will be played on Thursday before returning to action on Friday at 8:30 pm.
