One of the rowdiest places to play in baseball is Yankee Stadium. Opponents have gone on record by saying that the crowd is very hostile and sometimes even volatile. And that is just from the mere dislike of the opposing team.

Imagine if say, a team they feel cheated them out of a chance to make it to the World Series four years ago came to town for the first time since they were found guilty by Major League Baseball and fans were allowed in the stands after one year of being gone due to a major pandemic. That could be very chaotic correct?

Well, the Houston Astros was that team who was involved in a cheating scandal back in 2017 when they defeated the Yankees in the ALCS and advanced to the World Series outlasting the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. On Tuesday, New York fans came out in full force to boo the five remaining players from the 2017 team and that energy helped fuel the Yankees to a 7-3 victory over the Astros.

“It sounded like a packed house,” said Astros manager Dusty Baker who was hired after former manager A.J. Hinch was fired for his involvement in the scandal.

Houston got on the board early in the game when third baseman Alex Bregman homered to put the Astros up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. That lead would be short-lived as Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer off of starter Zack Greinke in the bottom of that same inning to take a 2-1 lead.

As the game went on both teams exchanged runs until the game was tied at three apiece, but an error by Bregman in the bottom of the sixth inning would open the flood gates for the Yankees as they scored four runs and would eventually win the game.

“That was playoff energy, even though we’re not at full capacity," said Stanton after the game. "That was fun. They brought the noise.”

Houston expected everything they received from a raucous crowd and tried their best to drown out all distractions and profane insults coming from the stands.

“I think we just tried to focus on taking good swings, competing and worrying about baseball,” Alex Bregman said.

Houston will be back in action against the Yankees on Wednesday in the second game of the three-game series.
