The Astros got some bad news on Friday as the team learned that OF Michael Brantley was headed to the 10-day Injured List due to tightness in his right hamstring. His stint was retroactive to May 25.

Brantley was having a very consistent year at the plate as he was on a current seven-game hitting streak that dated back to May 16. His 14-doubles so far this season has him in the top-10 of that category. Houston recalled IF Robel Garcia from Triple A Sugar Land to be a part of the active roster until Brantley gets healthy.

Houston will also be without the services of DH Yordan Alvarez as they face the San Diego Padres who has established themselves as one of the best teams in the league. Alvarez has been dealing with a lingering issue that caused him to miss the last game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Although the Astros will be without some of their bigger bats in the three-game series against San Diego, they were able to get some of their pitchers back in the rotation. Framber Valdez will make his first start of the 2021 MLB season on Friday and Jake Odorizzi returns on Saturday. José Urquidy could also be back as soon as Monday when the Boston Red Sox come to town for a four-game series.

Editor’s Note: The Astros have placed C Jason Castro on the 10-day IL with left Achilles soreness. Houston has recalled C Garrett Stubbs from Triple A Sugar Land.
