Prairie View A&M ran away from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff on Thursday night as they rushed for 289 yards in a 27-17 win at Panther Stadium. The Panthers improved to 4-1 on the season, but more importantly, they pushed their conference record to 3-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Western division.

After trailing 3-0 to the Golden Lions, the Panthers took control with 14 first-quarter points, led by a 59-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jawon Pass and an 83-yard score from running back Lyndemain Brooks.

Pine-Bluff would respond with an 82-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Xzavier Vaughn to wide receiver Josh Wilkes to cut the lead to 14-9 in the second quarter. Vaughn replaced starting quarterback Skyler Perry after he was unable to get the offense moving.

The Panthers would increase their lead to 21-9 right before the half when Pass found the endzone for the second time in the half.

Prairie View put two field goals on the board by Luis Reyes in the third quarter as they took a commanding 27-9 lead into the fourth quarter.

Pine-Bluff would not go away easily, as their special team came up with a huge turnover when Dylan Smith blocked a punt by the Panthers, and it was returned eight yards for a touchdown by Raequan Prince to bring the score to 27-15.

The Golden Lions' successfully converted their two-point conversion attempt and trailed 27-17 with a little over six minutes left to play. After holding Prairie View to a three and out, Pine Bluff would get the ball back, but Panthers defensive back Troy James would halt any comeback attempt the Golden Lions were trying to put together with an interception as Prairie View went on to secure their third consecutive victory.

After playing in the State Fair Classic on Saturday, the Panthers had a short week of preparation before playing Thursday's nationally televised game (ESPNU). They will now be able to finally get some much-needed rest as they enter the bye week.

"We are going to turn around these next couple of days get some rest and then come back and work on Prairie View," said Panthers head coach Eric Dooley to reporters after the game. "Now we are going to do a self-scout on us and take a look at some of the things that we have not been executing on, in all three phases of the game, especially when you talk about offense, special teams, and defense.”
