The Houston Texans, in conjunction with the NFL, will celebrate their 13th consecutive year in partnership with the American Cancer Society. Their goal is to encourage people to get checked for any cancer-related issues early so that preventive measures to prevent further medical problems.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Texans will honor breast cancer survivor Elizabeth Weiss. She will serve as the Homefield Advantage Captain for Sunday's Pink Ribbon Game.

“Oh my God, it was so exciting,” said Weiss about getting the call from the Texans organization. “I thought, ‘Why me,' but I was very excited. As a lifelong Houstonian and Texans fan since the beginning, I am very honored and appreciative.”

After doing some self-checks, Weiss noticed some abnormalities and went to the doctor to have a checkup done given the family history of cancer issues that have been present in her family. Her first mammogram was at age 37, and she was diagnosed with breast cancer one month after she turned forty years old.

“I think prevention and early screenings,” Weiss said when asked about the advice she would give to younger individuals about getting screened.

"Anything you can do with your medical team to take those steps to make sure you are proactive in your medical journey is important,”

Weiss said she may not be able to contain her excitement when she runs out of the tunnel to ring the bell before the game.

“I might scream a little bit,” said a smiling Weiss.
