Houston-based Midway, a privately owned, fully integrated real estate investment and development firm, today unveiled an eye-catching new Art Station titled “The Whimsy Station,” brought to life by local artist, designer and muralist Shelbi Nicole, adorning its Houston BCycle station located at GreenStreet, downtown Houston’s vibrant mixed-use district. This marks the first Art Station in downtown Houston, and the fourth in market, for the nonprofit organization’s bike share program.

Located at Main & Dallas, GreenStreet’s BCycle station was one of the first 10 BCycle stations placed in downtown Houston and among the first of 20 stations in the entire network. Growing from just 3 stations in 2012, there are now more than 140 BCycle stations across Houston. Downtown Houston is the largest BCycle neighborhood network with 17 stations.

“GreenStreet is home to a variety of street art curated by our local art community and has become a downtown traffic driver because of the inviting and playful atmosphere and our tenant offerings,” said Katrina Buerger, Senior Marketing Strategist at Midway. “When we learned of Houston BCycle’s Art Station program, we knew this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Not only is this station the first in downtown, but it was designed and created by a local female artist. We are thrilled that Shelbi Nicole agreed to join us in this effort and we look forward to welcoming riders to GreenStreet to check it out.”

"When I created The Whimsy Station, my intention was for it to feel vibrant and alive much like Houston is, specifically downtown Houston, where this is located. It's also very much a reflection of how I felt creating it, and that's HAPPY,” said Shelbi Gregory, artist. “So many pass by this station every day and my hope is that it adds joy to the landscape and puts a smile on the viewers' face. It was such a pleasure to work with both the GreenStreet and BCycle teams on this project. I'm so grateful for companies like theirs who embrace and encourage the creativity in this city.”

Since launching in 2012, Houston BCycle’s mission is to provide equitable access to bike share that fosters recreation, mobility, and personal wellness. To date, Houston BCycle boasts 140+ stations, 1100 bikes, and 125 e-bikes making it easy to #KeepHoustonRolling.

For as little as 22 cents a day, anyone can check out a bike at the Main & Dallas station outside GreenStreet or through the BCycle mobile app, and ride to any other station or return to the start. Members pay a monthly ($13/mo) or annual ($79/yr) fee to get unlimited hour-long trips. Guest riders pay a flat fee of $3 per 30 minutes, with an additional $3 in Ride More fees for every additional 30 minutes. Riders can pay at any station using credit or debit card, at HoustonBCycle.com, or through the BCycle mobile app.

“As a nonprofit, Houston BCycle considers our stations to be an extension of the community. Bringing an Art Station to GreenStreet ties in with the downtown community's dedication to creating artistic spaces,” said Bryan Reed, Executive Director of Houston BCycle. “We are grateful to partner with GreenStreet and Midway to create more beauty along Main Street. We hope the Art Station design will encourage people to grab both a bike and some inspiration as they discover downtown on two wheels.”
