Texans first year head coach David Culley put to rest any doubt of a possible Week One start by quarterback Deshaun Watson when he announced on Monday that quarterback Tyrod Taylor would start against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

“Tyrod Taylor will start at quarterback for us for sure,” said Culley when asked by the media. “I know that’s the one everyone’s wondering; it’s come up before, but he will start for us on Sunday.”

Many had speculated that since the Texans has not given a definitive answer on who would start Week One that there could be a chance that Watson would take the field.

Watson, who was absent from practice on Monday has been the subject of multiple sexual misconduct allegations. His name has also been put on at least 10 criminal complaints by women who claim that the former Pro Bowl quarterback committed some form of sexual assault on them.

Taylor has not started a game since September 2020 when he was with the Los Angeles Chargers when he led the team to a 16-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He was limited in the three preseason games he played with the Texans going 12-for-18 with 81 passing yards and no touchdowns.
