And just like that, the Danny Amendola era has started in Houston. The former New England Patriots star was in practice with the Houston Texans on Monday after signing a one-year, $2.5 million dollar deal.

“You know Danny has been a quality player in this league for a long time,” said Houston Texans head coach David Culley. “I happened to have Danny back in Philadelphia a while back, I know what he’s all about. He fits the mold.”

Amendola, who is from the Woodlands which is a suburb in greater Houston, spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions where he had a combined 1,280 yards receiving and one touchdown. His 62 receptions in 2019 ranked as fourth best in his career.

“It’s awesome,” said starting Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks on having Amendola on the team. “You talk about a guy who’s obviously been playing this game for a long time, the energy that he brings. The mentality, the heart that he plays with. Definitely excited to play with him again, we played together a couple years ago, and glad to be back in the same room with him again.”

The Texans brought in the two-time Super Bowl winning wide receiver as a backup to slot receiver Anthony Miller who they signed in the offseason but has also been plagued with health issues in the past including suffering a shoulder dislocation in the preseason opener this season.
