The Prairie View A&M football team will look to extend its three-game winning streak against Grambling State on Saturday as the two teams will square off in Dallas, Texas in the State Fair Classic.

GSU came up short last year losing to the Panthers 17-10, yet PVAMU head coach Eric Dooley believes in taking things one step at a time and doesn’t believe that any of the previous matchups will play a part in this week’s game.

“I know that it is going to be a good football game,” said coach Dooley on his upcoming battle against Grambling.

Prairie View (2-1) is coming off an impressive 37-27 win over Houston Baptist University at Panther Stadium on last Saturday. Quarterback Jawon Pass, who was voted Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week for the second time in three weeks, put on an amazing performance by throwing for 356 yards and two touchdowns.

The Panthers also limited the Huskies to just three points in the second half after giving up 24 in the first. The biggest play of the night came when PV defensive back Logan Jackson returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers their second win of the season.

Grambling State (1-2) was not so lucky in their quest for victory this past Saturday, as they made the trip from Louisiana to Houston to take on the University of Houston Cougars. Leading 21-0 at the half, the Cougars matched that total in the third quarter as they cruised to a 45-0 win over the Tigers. Houston limited Grambling to just 102 total yards and 3 first downs for the game.

Tigers head coach Broderick Fobbs knows that his team is up against another tough opponent this week to open conference play when they take on the Panthers.

“We got to make sure that we are ready to play this particular weekend, because we know we are going to get their [PV] best shot,” coach Fobbs responded when asked about preparation for Prairie View.
