According to an NFL source on Monday, former Houston Texans safety Justin Reid intends to sign a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid was selected with the 68th overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Texans and signed a four-year deal worth $4.06 million that included a signing bonus of $1.03 million.

Houston was one of Reid’s first choices as a destination to play in the 2022-23 NFL season, but the price tag was a little too steep for a rebuilding franchise that has a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reid intends to sign a three-year contract worth $31.5 million with Kansas City, and $20 million of that will be fully guaranteed.

The former Stanford safety made comments during the offseason that he would love to play for former defensive coordinator Lovie Smith who was promoted to head coach by the Texans in February. Smith was one of the individuals who helped Reid get through his Week 12 suspension for disciplinary reasons by former head coach David Culley.

Reid, 25, was very consistent during his time with the Texans. In the 53 games he started, he finished with 315 combined tackles (230 solo), seven interceptions, and three fumble recoveries.
