Jackson State University is listed among “15 Colleges with Affordable Out-of-State Tuition” in a recent article published by US News & World Report. JSU remains one of the most popular options for students looking for a high-quality education at an affordable price.
“Jackson State University offers a challenging academic experience at an affordable price, which is one of our strategic priorities to help students achieve their educational goals,” said President Thomas K. Hudson, J.D. “Every year we travel the country to recruit the best and brightest scholars, and affordability is a top priority for students and parents as they research various institutions. This US News and World Report list further confirms the value out-of-state students receive by choosing Jackson State.”
Caleb Turner is a freshman from Baltimore, Maryland. As an out-of-state student he agrees that the reasonable costs contributed to his decision to attend Jackson State while he researched top programs for computer engineering.
"Coming to JSU, I saw that the engineering program wasn't as limited as other HBCUs engineering programs. Another reason for coming to JSU is that it was very affordable. I'm not on a scholarship, so I am paying for school with FAFSA and a payment plan, but I believe attending here leaves you with little to no debt compared to most schools," said Turner.
US News & World Report identified the cost of tuition and fees as one of the biggest barriers for many prospective college students. In 2019, JSU significantly reduced the out-of-state fees to $500 per semester after approval from the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Prior to that, out-of-state fees were more than $11,000 per year.
