Houston Style Magazine Feature: Get Moving on National Walking Day with Over 35 Community Organizations

Get ready to lace up your walking shoes and join the citywide celebration of National Walking Day, spearheaded by Fit Houston Healthy City and supported by over 35 community organizations. On Wednesday, April 3, Houstonians are invited to step out and embrace the spirit of fitness and camaraderie by participating in walking activities across Greater Houston.

National Walking Day serves as a rallying call for the city's 8 million residents to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines. Whether it's a leisurely stroll through a neighborhood park or a brisk walk during the lunch break, everyone is encouraged to join the movement towards a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Media representatives are invited to join a group walk on April 3 at 8:30 am, starting from Hillendahl Library at 2436 Gessner Rd., Houston, TX 77080. Interview opportunities will be available in both English and Spanish.

Lharissa Jacobs, Founder and Executive Director of Fit Houston and Fit Houston Healthy City, emphasizes the inclusivity of the event, stating, "Walk where you are." Participants are encouraged to find opportunities for walking within their own environments, whether it's within their workplace, neighborhood, or local parks.

The planning committee, led by Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Fit Houston, and Urban Paths, includes collaboration from various organizations such as Fit, Fabulous, and Free, Friends of Columbia Tap, HCA Houston Healthcare, Imagína Communications, Latino Outdoors, Legacy Community Health, Sisters Thrive, and The Texas Heart Institute. Together, they are orchestrating a comprehensive citywide initiative to promote health and wellness through walking.

Additional local organizations are invited to join this collective effort towards building healthier communities, with every step taken contributing to better health outcomes for all.

Participants are encouraged to share their walking adventures on social media using hashtags such as #HOUwalk, #WALK30, and #GoWalkHouston, amplifying the event's impact and inspiring others to get moving.
