The Center for Pursuit (The Center), a cornerstone organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, and related conditions, proudly announces the appointment of Charles K. Njuguna as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 8th.

Bringing over 25 years of international business acumen to the role, Njuguna's extensive experience spans operational and financial management across the US, UK, and Africa. A distinguished figure, he has previously served on The Center's board of directors for nearly three years and contributed his expertise to Character Camp for four years. Recognized as one of Houston's most admired CEOs in 2022, Njuguna's leadership extends beyond corporate realms, with active involvement in community-rooted organizations. Prior to joining The Center, he held pivotal roles at Koil Energy, culminating in his tenure as CEO, CFO, President, and Director, where he spearheaded innovations in deepwater oil and gas production technologies.

"I am profoundly honored to step into the role of CEO at The Center for Pursuit," expressed Mr. Njuguna. "With a legacy spanning over 74 years, I am dedicated to building upon the remarkable groundwork laid by my predecessors. Together, we will further enrich the lives of individuals with IDD, autism, and similar conditions, ensuring The Center remains a steadfast pillar of support for generations to come."

Njuguna succeeds Charles C. Canton, whose six-year tenure as CEO witnessed transformative growth and resilience for The Center. Canton's stewardship guided the organization through monumental challenges, including recovery from Hurricane Harvey, relocation to a new campus in Houston's East End, navigating the pandemic, and pioneering new programs while maintaining unwavering commitment to participants and families.

In a poignant farewell message to staff, Canton reflected, "Together, we've embodied the core values of our mission – choice, growth, and independence. I am grateful for your dedication in empowering individuals to make choices, fostering their personal growth, and nurturing greater independence. Your commitment to these principles leaves a lasting imprint."

Dr. Allison P. Edwards, Board Chair, expressed gratitude for Canton's leadership, stating, "The Center for Pursuit has flourished under Charles C. Canton's guidance, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for his transformative contributions. As we look to the future, we welcome Charles K. Njuguna's vision and leadership, eagerly anticipating the next chapter of our journey."
