Taste Kitchen + Bar Fundraiser for Julie Gray

 Taste Kitchen + Bar, Houston’s ultimate all-day brunch destination, is hosting a special fundraiser for Julie Gray, a Houston mom and creative arts director who has been battling cervical cancer for nearly two years, this Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 8:00am–10:00pm, at the Downtown restaurant, located at 420 Main Street.

Taste Kitchen + Bar will donate 50% of all sales on Wednesday to support Gray and her family!    

Gray, who launched Houston’s first interactive street-art pop-up gallery, Playhaus II, was diagnosed in the summer of 2022 with stage 3 cervical cancer and has had an ongoing battle with its reoccurrence. She has endured 35 rounds of radiation, Brachytherapy radiation, four rounds of Cisplatin chemotherapy, as well as five rounds of Tivdak cancer treatments.

In December 2023, a pet scan showed that the most recent chemotherapy she had undergone for the past five months was unfortunately not working and her tumor had actually grown in size during the process, as well as spread into her pelvic walls. Friends and family launched a GoFundMe to help pay for an additional round of chemotherapy and treatments not covered by insurance, as well as the mounting medical bills and needs of her family. Despite the latest round of treatments, Gray is now under hospice care. The crowdfunding effort has raised $26,647 of its $150,000 goal thus far.

“Julie is a friend, a mother of two, and an extremely talented, strong, and courageous young woman,” said Chef Don Bowie, the creative force behind Taste Kitchen + Bar. “She and her family need not just the financial support, but the love and prayers of the community, now more than ever.  I am encouraging everyone in the community to come to Taste on Wednesday for a meal that supports this important cause, or to make a donation to Julie’s GoFundMe in support of her journey.”

Taste Kitchen + Bar Taste will be offering their full extensive menu of elevated, signature Southern cuisine curated by Chef Bowie for the fundraiser. The restaurant's unique culinary choices encompass all-day brunch options, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with some of the most delicious and innovative specialty chicken & waffles to be found anywhere!  Taste features gourmet pancakes and waffles in flavors like Pecan Praline, Peach Cobbler, and Cinnamon Toast, along with Steak & Eggs and savory Seafood & Grits for breakfast and brunch, and a host of distinctive soups, salads, starters, and sandwiches to choose from.  Signature entrees include choices like Jerk Rack of Lamb and Twin Lobster Tails, with a flavorful selection of Southern sides and premium Mac and Cheese made with Bacon, Lobster, and Truffle Smoked Gouda!

Guests at Taste Kitchen + Bar enjoy the vibrant and casual dining atmosphere, spread over three floors with two full bars and an extensive menu of signature craft cocktails, as well as the private dining room, and limited seating on the outdoor patio right on Main Street.

Taste will be donating 50% of all their sales on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, to the fundraising efforts for Julie Gray and her family.  Chef Bowie is encouraging the community to support the effort by visiting Taste Kitchen + Bar Downtown (420 Main Street) between the hours of 8am and 10pm on Wednesday!
