As Earth Day 2024 approaches, the City of Houston is gearing up for a monumental celebration of environmental stewardship with a large-scale tree planting event. Partnering with Apache Corporation, the city aims to plant 2,500 trees, symbolizing a significant step towards enhancing Houston's green spaces and fostering sustainability.

Apache Corporation's steadfast support for the city's sustainability endeavors has been instrumental in making this event a reality. With their generous contribution, they continue to demonstrate a commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement, following previous collaborations on initiatives like the Tour de Houston bike ride.

On Monday, April 22, 2024, city officials, Apache employees, and volunteers from Houston communities will converge at Watonga Park to participate in the historic mass tree-planting event. This initiative not only honors Earth Day but also serves as a tangible manifestation of collective efforts to preserve and nurture our natural environment.

The Earth Day HTX event is aligned with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Riparian Restoration Initiative, aimed at revitalizing forested areas across 70 parks along Houston's waterways. With 25 restoration projects already completed, this tree planting endeavor marks another milestone in the city's ongoing commitment to environmental conservation.

Dignitaries and officials, including Mayor John Whitmire and Houston City Council Members, will join Apache Corporation CEO John J. Christmann and his executive team in leading the program. Together with volunteers from local organizations and enthusiastic Houstonians, they will roll up their sleeves to plant trees and leave a lasting impact on the city's landscape.

This collaborative effort underscores the power of community partnerships in driving positive change and creating a greener, more sustainable future for Houston. As we come together to celebrate Earth Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to preserving our planet and nurturing the natural beauty that surrounds us. Join us on April 22nd as we plant the seeds of change and embark on a journey towards a brighter, greener tomorrow.
