Join Holocaust Museum Houston (HMH) in celebrating Black History Month with a special event as part of Black Art Houston Weekend. On Sunday, February 18th, HMH will open its doors for a free admission day, allowing visitors to explore its permanent galleries and the featured exhibition, The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection. Thanks to the generosity of Shell USA, guests can enjoy this immersive experience without any cost.

The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection is a remarkable exhibition that pays homage to the achievements and contributions of Black Americans spanning from 1595 to the present day. Featuring over 100 works, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, rare books, letters, and manuscripts, this collection offers a comprehensive survey of African American history and culture. Notable pieces include the poignant "Doors of No Return" from Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, offering a powerful reflection on the transatlantic slave trade.

As part of the free day on February 18th, attendees can engage with Houston artist Ava Cosey at 2 p.m. as she joins Khambrel Marshall in conversation. Cosey will share insights into her artwork, showcasing over 50 of her pieces. Notably, her painting "Ancestor’s Torch" highlights inventions by African Americans from the 1800s onwards, providing a captivating exploration of Black innovation and creativity.
