In a decisive legal victory, a 50-year-old Houston man, Daniel A. Reyes-Gomez, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison without parole for the continuous sexual assault of two girls, aged 7 and 12 at the time, over several months starting in 2020. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced the verdict, emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice for the most vulnerable victims in our society – our children.
“Our children are our most vulnerable victims,” Ogg stated. “And it is vitally important that we go to trial on cases like this so that the young girls who were abused get justice.”
Reyes-Gomez's conviction for continuous sexual assault of a child resulted from a three-day trial prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Danielle Oxford, a chief in the DA’s Crimes Against Children Division, and ADA Rachel Barlow, assigned to the DA’s Trafficking/Exploitation Division. The accused, given the option to have his punishment determined by the judge, received a stern 60-year sentence on Thursday.
This sentencing ensures that under Texas law, Reyes-Gomez must serve the entirety of the 60-year prison term without the possibility of parole. The stringent penalty reflects the severity of the crimes committed against the young victims, reinforcing the commitment to protecting the vulnerable members of our community.
