In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the Institute for Spirituality and Health, along with its Greater Houston Healing Collaborative (GHHC) partners, is stepping up to support the community with a FREE virtual event titled "Breathing After Beryl: A Community Care Gathering" on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

This online event aims to provide mental and emotional relief to those affected by the hurricane. Participants will engage in evidence-based mind-body practices designed to manage stress, heal from trauma, and foster resilience. The event will offer a space for community members to connect, decompress, and explore self-care opportunities.

"In times of crisis, the strength of our community connection becomes more evident and essential. The mind-body medicine skills we share provide evidence-based tools to help individuals manage stress, heal from trauma, and foster resilience. These empower personal well-being and strengthen the fabric of our community, creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive,” commented Aproteem Choudhury, director of the Institute’s Greater Houston Healing Collaborative.

Choudhury, along with Leah Adams Pruitt, Vice President of Engagement at the Institute for Spirituality and Health, are available for interviews. They can discuss the coordinated response efforts, the resources being mobilized, and the critical role of community collaboration in recovery.

The Greater Houston Healing Collaborative, the cornerstone program of the Institute's Center for Body, Spirit, and Mind, was created in response to the mental health needs that surfaced after Hurricane Harvey. Since then, the Collaborative has been a pillar of support through the COVID-19 pandemic, offering support groups for medical professionals and first responders. To date, the Institute has trained over 120 facilitators who have impacted the lives of more than 30,000 individuals across Houston.
