From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, Harris County Department of Education’s Head Start division will host a job fair at its administration building located at 6300 Irvington Blvd., Houston, TX, 77022.

Head Start is hiring for various positions that support five Early Head Start and 15 Head Start campuses across north and east Harris County, including non-certified early childhood education teachers, family service providers, nutrition service managers, instructional coaches, special education coordinators, administrators, facilities and custodial staff.

HCDE’s Head Start division is a vital component of the Department, providing comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition and parent engagement services to low-income families with children under 5 years old. With a focus on school readiness, campuses utilize the Texas Education Agency-approved Frog Street Press curriculum to lay students’ foundation for lifelong success.

As a three-time Houston Chronicle Top Workplace, HCDE employees benefit from a prioritized work-life balance, dual retirement programs (Teacher Retirement System of Texas pension and Social Security), and top-ranking salaries—including the highest starting teacher salary in Harris County of $63,600. HCDE is also one of the first local education agencies to increase its minimum wage to $15 an hour for hourly staff.

In addition to paid time off, HCDE follows school district calendars which provide employees with time off during winter and spring break. Other benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, and flexible work schedules.
