TSU Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Golf Simulator and Business of Golf Information Session with Industry Leaders from PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA and more

Texas Southern University (TSU) has been chosen as one of 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for the HBCU Golf Consortium initiative. This pilot program is spearheaded by Make Golf Your Thing, a collaborative movement aiming to diversify and make golf more inclusive.

As a pilot member, TSU recently hosted a "Business of Golf" information session. This event provided TSU students with an opportunity to gain insights into the golf industry's vast reach, potential, and career opportunities, as representatives from the golf industry engaged with them on campus.

“We are grateful that the HBCU leaders are welcoming the golf industry to their campuses and inviting us to meet the students as we aim to strengthen our industry through greater diversity,” said Dr. Michael Cooper, USGA Senior Regional Advisor and a co-chair of Make Golf Your Career’s HBCU effort. “We hope the relationships and inroads we are forging to the very capable talent that exists at HBCUs will create opportunities for students as well as the golf industry.”

Representatives from various golf organizations, including PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA, PGA of America, Golf Course Superintendents, and golf equipment company PXG, were present under the "Make Golf Your Career" banner to discuss career opportunities in the $102 billion golf industry with TSU students.

Interim president Dr. Mary Evans Sias commented, “Texas Southern University is committed to exposing students to diverse opportunities that expand their horizons. We are delighted that Make Golf Your Thing has chosen our campus for the installation of a golf simulator, providing our students with valuable opportunities in this lucrative industry."

In collaboration with Make Golf Your Thing, TSU has installed a golf simulator on campus to stimulate interest in golf among students. This initiative aligns with the White House Initiative on HBCUs and aims to foster a new generation of diverse talent in the golf industry.
