As a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., I feel compelled to speak out about the wrongful imprisonment of my prophyte and fraternity brother, Ladavious Dashawn McNair. Ladavious is a respected Army veteran, a dedicated federal government employee, and a current Ph.D. student at Clark Atlanta University. Yet despite his sterling character and clear evidence of his innocence, he remains behind bars due to a case of mistaken identity.

Ladavious was arrested in early October and charged with Aggravated Assault & Battery for a crime allegedly committed in 2023. These charges, however, are based on an egregious error. At the time of the crime, Ladavious was in class—attending lectures as part of his doctoral studies. His professor has even provided documented evidence proving that Ladavious was in class during the alleged incident. Despite this, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office has refused to release him or even acknowledge the attempts made by his legal counsel to clear up this tragic mistake.

The fact that Ladavious is being held without bail only adds to the injustice. He has served his country, dedicated himself to his education, and remains an active member of our community—particularly within Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he has been a constant source of mentorship and leadership.

What’s more frustrating is the lack of communication from the DA’s office. His lawyer has reached out multiple times, providing correspondence that could corroborate Ladavious’s alibi and ultimately prove his innocence. Yet these efforts have been met with silence. Fulton County’s refusal to act is a disservice to Ladavious and a glaring example of systemic failures that allow such cases of mistaken identity to persist.

We cannot stand by while bureaucracy and neglect jeopardize an innocent man’s life and future. It’s imperative that we raise awareness of Ladavious’s case and hold the Fulton County DA’s office accountable for its inaction. Ladavious deserves his freedom, and we demand that the legal system correct this mistake immediately.

I urge everyone reading this to share Ladavious’s story, contact the Fulton County DA’s office, and demand justice. Our brother has sacrificed so much for his community and his country; now it’s time for us to stand up for him in return.
