Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is delighted to announce an enchanting event for students, families, and fans of children’s literature: *Mo Willems’s Bite-Sized Operas!* This exciting double bill, part of HGO’s renowned *Opera to Go!* series, will take place from Tuesday, October 8, to Thursday, October 10, at the scenic Miller Outdoor Theatre. The performances are completely free and will be offered in both English and Spanish, making this a can’t-miss, family-friendly cultural experience.

 A Fun-Filled Double Bill of Opera and Adventure

Audiences are in for a treat as *Mo Willems’s Bite-Sized Operas!* features two captivating mini-operas based on the beloved works of bestselling, Emmy Award-winning children’s author Mo Willems. With music composed by Grammy Award-nominated Carlos Simon, these performances promise to deliver engaging stories with unforgettable melodies that will charm children and adults alike.

The first opera, *Slopera!*, follows the hilarious and heartwarming friendship of Piggie and Elephant, two characters who, despite their differences, learn the importance of appreciating one another. The second piece, *Don’t Let the Pigeon Sing Up Late!*, stars The Pigeon and his friends in a spirited battle against bedtime, creating a lighthearted narrative that mirrors Willems’ humorous and relatable storytelling.

These operas are not only perfect for families but also offer an introduction to opera for children, blending education and entertainment. The productions are full of high energy, vivid characters, and memorable songs, ensuring everyone is engaged from start to finish.

In addition to the October performances, *Mo Willems’s Bite-Sized Operas!* will continue to delight audiences across Texas as part of HGO’s *Opera to Go!* program throughout the 2024-2025 season. The initiative brings fully-staged, 45-minute operas to schools and community venues, making opera accessible to children and families throughout greater Houston. With its compact format, this traveling opera series is designed to inspire young minds and foster an appreciation for the performing arts.
