Join Children’s Museum Houston for fiesta, freedom and ballet folklórico as we commemorate Mexico’s “Fiestas Patrias.” On Sept. 15, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo climbed atop a church and encouraged people to fight for Mexico’s independence, which was then declared the next day. This “cry” for liberty marks Miguel Hidalgo’s famous “Grito de Dolores,” and it’s celebrated with music, fireworks and parades. Fiestas Patrias marks the Museum’s first of many events during National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
New degree takes root in PVAMU’s newly renamed College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
For Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Human Sciences, the fall semester brings a new degree program and a new name. The Master of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) has enrolled its first students, and starting Sept. 1, the CAHS will be officially named the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). Four months following approval by Houston City Council, 62 Houston Arts & Cultural organizations from across the City learned that their requested funding, up to $100,000, was approved. The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) was able to accomplish this effort in collaboration with Mid-America Arts Alliance, a trusted partner with a track record of helping the city efficiently distribute federal funds within the creative economy.
