Grads Within Reach Walk successfully brings high school students back to school

Volunteers from more than 30 HISD comprehensive secondary schools spent Saturday morning knocking on doors across Houston encouraging students who have not returned to school this academic year to re-enroll.

HISD to continue operating under free and reduced-price meals Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Houston ISD announced today it will continue its policy to operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the School Year 2022 - 2023. Schools qualifying to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

This week is National Nurses Week, and Wednesday, May 11, is National School Nurse Day. Every year, HISD acknowledges the impact the district’s school nurses have on the health and wellness of our students. School nurses have long been at the heart of HISD campuses, but over the past two years, their importance has become even more apparent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been working with local, state, and federal health officials to develop and establish important health protocols.

Superintendent: HISD will require masks for students and staff on the first day of school

Houston ISD announced the district will implement a mask mandate for the 2021-2022 school year. According to HISD Superintendent Millard House II, the board will support mandating masks at the beginning of the school year. House voiced his concerns about students wearing masks as the number of COVID-19 cases rises due to the delta variant.
