Visitors are invited to reflect, co-create, and share experiences through engaging activities centered around artwork in the Museum’s permanent collection in collaboration with an inaugural studio artist.

Houston Women Shine at the 75th Tony Awards
Roshanda Jones-Koumba, theater director at G. W. Carver Magnet High School, received the 2022 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre Education. The Award is presented by the Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University to honor. Educators who impact the lives of students. Roshanda Jones-Koumba states, “In theatre we accept all, so you’re not afraid to be yourself. And that gives you confidence to do anything you want, enables you to work with different people, and to be a better all-around person,” Jones-Koumba said. “Theatre is life. I’m very grateful to The Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University for this honor.”
Ann Johnson – The Sankofa Project Curated By Tierney Malone

Derived from the Ghanian word “Sankofa,” meaning “one must acknowledge the past to move forward,” The Sankofa Project is a multi-year curatorial project examining the historical events leading up to our current moment of social unrest and racial reckoning. Artwork curated by Malone will be presented on Lawndale’s east-facing windows off Main Street and accompanied by programming to inspire dialogue within our community.

The Menil Collection is pleased to present Samuel Fosso: African Spirits, an exhibition of the four- teen, large-scale gelatin silver prints from Samuel Fosso’s African Spirits series. The show—on view at the Menil from August 5, 2022 through January 15, 2023—is presented in conjunction with the 2022 FotoFest Biennial and African Cosmologies Redux, a new presentation of photography originally cu- rated by Dr. Mark Sealy OBE, Director of Autograph, London, and Professor at University of the Arts London.

For over three decades, Art League Houston (ALH) has honored the brightest lights in the arts in Texas. This year, ALH proudly announces the selection of Letitia Huckaby as the 2022 Texas Artist of the Year, Earlie Hudnall, Jr. as the recipient of the biennial 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Visual Arts, and Melanie Lawson and John Guess, Jr. as the 2022 Texas Patrons of the Year.

The Community Artist Collective Trio
The Community Artists’ Collective welcomes the new year with “Wisdom and Hope,” the creative offerings of local artists Hardy Allen, Daniel Tesfai, and Zymora Eikner. The exhibition opens January 21, and a reception will be on Saturday, January 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Collective, 4101 San Jacinto, Suite 116. The exhibition continues through February 26.
