Remembering the Life of Andrew Moran
In Derry, Louisiana, on a small tenant farm tended by his parents, Tony and Zarada, Andrew Moran was born in a modest house situated in a cotton field. Andrew spent his early years assisting his parents with the tasks associated with rural life: caring for livestock, hogs and chickens; and picking cotton, digging potatoes and pulling corn. He later drove a light truck on the Magnolia plantation where his father worked as a cowboy. When he wasn’t working on the farm, he attended primary school in Cloutierville, a few miles from his home.

Texas Southern University held its inaugural Maroon and Gray Affair on April 29 at the Marriott Marquis Houston and raised in excess of $800,000 in scholarship money for deserving TSU students. More than 1,100 people were in attendance. Texas Southern’s award-winning Ocean of Soul marching band opened the evening with a thunderous performance. Doug Jones Won U.S. Senate Race in Alabama Because of Black Women Trying to “Save America”
Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in Tuesday’s Alabama Senate race with the overwhelming support of black women voters, 98 percent of whom cast their ballots for the Democrat. According to CNN’s exit polls, only 34 percent of white women voted for Jones, with 63 percent of that voter bloc offering their support to Moore instead. The Republican has been accused of pursuing inappropriate relationships with teen girls as an adult.
