HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Michael Moore, who served as Houston Mayor Bill White’s Chief of Staff, announced his candidacy today for Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 3.

Moore will run in the March 3, 2020 Democratic primary and ultimately in the November 2020 election; the seat is currently held by Commissioner Steve Radack.

“Growth is good, but we need a county commissioner who can meet the challenges it brings,” said Moore. “I’ve helped lead efforts to reduce traffic congestion and helped lead on hurricane response and recovery. I know how to succeed in nonpartisan politics, where results matter, not partisan games.”

Moore’s announcement included endorsements by Harris County’s Precinct 2 Commissioner, and former sheriff, Adrian Garcia, and Houston’s former mayor, Bill White.

Adrian Garcia said:

“I am excited that Michael Moore has announced his intentions to serve the citizens of this community. Michael is uniquely and extremely well qualified to do the job and will hit the ground running when elected. His experience as Chief of Staff to one of Houston’s most well regarded mayors, along with his overall experience in government, transportation and the energy sector, make him the best candidate to lead Precinct 3 into the future.

“Michael has proven himself as a consensus builder and I know him to be a hands-on leader on matters of importance, regardless of the community affected. I know his heart and I have no doubt that all in Precinct 3, no matter their walk of life, will be treated with dignity and respect. I am proud to strongly support his candidacy for county commissioner.”

Mayor White said:

“I've worked closely with Michael Moore during the last 25 years. He has a servant's heart and personal integrity, is effective, and keeps his word. He would be an ideal Harris County Commissioner. Michael is my friend and he is seeking public office for all the right reasons. He will work hard for his constituents, treat everyone with respect, make sure tax dollars aren't wasted, and improve the community that he grew up in.”

When Michael Moore served as Chief of Staff for Houston Mayor Bill White from 2004 to 2009, he helped lead on issues from transportation and emergency response, to public safety, economic development, parks and green space. Since then, he has worked in the energy and transportation industries, principally in the communications field.

“It’s time for a new era in county government,” said Moore. “From flooding and traffic to safer neighborhoods and better parks, schools and health care – I will work with anyone, anywhere to get the results we need and deserve in Precinct 3.”
