The East End Houston community is greener thanks to a massive effort led by the East End District to plant more than 400 trees in the historic neighborhood. Crews of volunteers were mobilized to three sites in the East End area during December, completing the task in less than 24 hours.
The sites are located at 1300 Broadway Street, 8200 Harrisburg Boulevard, and Lockwood Drive. A wide variety of beautiful tree types now populates the flat green pastures, eventually enhancing the neighborhood's landscape. The new tree types include Loblolly Pine, American Elm, Cedar Elm, Bald Cypress, American Sycamore, and Live Oak.
The donation of the trees by Trees For Houston and the collaboration of Precinct 6 were essential to the effort. Dozens of volunteers from Kirksey Architecture, World Petroleum Congress, and Linde made the planting possible.
Veronica Chapa Gorczynski, President of the East End District, welcomes the contribution with Trees For Houston to support the East End Houston interest to create more green spaces in the area to balance the effect of new construction and beautify the East End Houston landscape.
