Doritos SOLID BLACK and the PepsiCo Foundation introduced a new commercial during the BET Awards to amplify the voices of inspiring Black Changemakers. And today, Doritos is continuing this mission with the release of a new flavor, Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno, created in partnership with Houston’s very own Chef Chris Williams of the award-winning restaurant Lucille’s.

The new flavor is the latest way the brand is turning over its platforms to spotlight Black creators.

Here’s more information about the flavor and this year’s SOLID BLACK program:

The Bold Flavor: The new Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno is inspired by the sweet and spicy flavors found in Chef Chris’s Texas community and through his award-winning restaurant Lucille’s in Houston.

The One-of-a-Kind Packaging: The exclusive packaging for Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno was designed by Mz. Icar, an anonymous art collective comprised primarily of Black women who explore the histories and future of women and people of color through street art and fine art. Mz. Icar centered the on-pack design around the concept of thriving, prospering, and flourishing, representing the collectives’ hopes for our present and future.

The IRL Impact: To further recognize Chef Chris’s impact on his community, Frito-Lay will make a $50,000 donation to Lucille’s 1913, his nonprofit aimed at fighting food insecurity in his community. Started during COVID as an homage to his great-grandmother, Lucille’s 1913 is a conscious community collective that provides daily meals to underserved populations in and around Houston.

The History: Now in its third year, Doritos SOLID BLACK, in partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation, has recognized more than 25 Black Changemakers.
