Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock has made history as she takes the helm as the first Hispanic woman to serve as the Chair of METRO's Board of Directors. With a distinguished background in the energy sector, Brock brings a wealth of expertise and a passion for community advocacy to her new role.
Recently promoted to Vice President of Utility Infrastructure Planning for CenterPoint Energy, Brock's career spans decades, with notable roles as a governmental affairs strategist for Reliant Energy, Texas Southern University, and the University of Houston. Expressing gratitude for the support she has received, Brock emphasized her commitment to safety, equity, and accessibility in transportation.
"I am honored to serve as METRO's Board Chair and am eager to collaborate with fellow Board Members," stated Brock. "Safety, equity, convenient transportation, accessibility, and bus shelters are priorities that resonate deeply with me."
Beyond her professional achievements, Brock is a dedicated advocate for environmental sustainability. She founded Evolve Houston, a local nonprofit promoting cleaner air quality through the adoption of electric vehicles. Additionally, Brock serves on various boards, including the Houston First Corporation and the Greater Houston Area Women's Chamber, where she previously served as board chair.
Joining Brock on the Board of Directors is Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca, a former bilingual early childhood teacher and HISD trustee. Vilaseca's confirmation by the Harris County Commissioner's Court underscores her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and transportation accessibility in the community.
"Education and transportation are essential components of economic mobility," stated Vilaseca. "I am honored to contribute my experience to address the diverse transportation needs of Houston's communities."
With her background in public policy and infrastructure projects, Vilaseca brings a unique perspective to her role on the Board. Her tenure as an educator and trustee equips her to advocate effectively for the transportation needs of Houston's diverse population.
In addition to the new appointments, Deputy CEO Thomas Jasien has been appointed as METRO's interim President & CEO. Former Board Chair Sanjay Ramabhadran, recognized for his exceptional service, was presented with a proclamation honoring his contributions to METRO and the region during his tenure.
METRO's Board of Directors looks forward to the leadership of Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock and Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca as they work collaboratively to advance the transit authority's mission and serve the community.
