Cullinan, this hospital served the Houston community for 90 years before closing in 2015 due to financial and legal troubles. As Houston remains one of the most diverse cities in the nation, the absence of large African American medical practices or hospitals raises important questions. Why aren’t there more Black-owned medical groups? Are African American physicians reluctant to collaborate, or is there simply no demand for such institutions?
