Dr. Samuel Axelrad is a Houston author, retired urologist and Vietnam War veteran who recently published a memoir titled Peaceful Bones. Dr. Axelrad's memoir illustrates his time in Vietnam as an army surgeon during the Vietnam war where he finds himself helping not only American soldiers but hundreds of Vietnamese citizens both wounded and ill. Peaceful Bones is about one special patient named Hung Nguyen aka "Charlie" who becomes an unlikely friend on the battlefield. METRO has received confirmation a bus operator has tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of cases to 25 METRO employees and three contractors. Twelve of the employees had no contact with the public. METRO tracks and reports all positive cases among its workforce of more than 4200. We are also conducting temperature checks of employees before they begin their workday.

METRO has received confirmation a mechanic and an engineering contractor have tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of cases to 51 METRO employees and 12 contractors. Twenty-six of the employees had no contact with the public. METRO tracks and reports all positive cases among its workforce of more than 4200. We are also conducting temperature checks of employees before they begin their workday.

Large-diameter underground stormwater tunnels have the potential to significantly reduce flooding risks in Harris County and warrant deeper analysis, the Harris County Flood Control District announced today with publication of its “Feasibility Study of Stormwater Conveyance Tunnels – Phase 2” report. Preliminary information regarding a potentially “transformational” system of tunnels that could reduce persistent flooding for tens of thousands of homes were included in this update of the feasibility study, which was launched after Harris County officials challenged the Flood Control District to develop new flood risk reduction tools in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
