Astros involved in a bench clearing brawl as they drop 5th straight game

It has been a frustrating 2020 for the Houston Astros. Outside of being branded as the “Asterisks” and becoming the bad guys of baseball due to the 2017 cheating scandal, they have had their roster decimated by injuries of some of their top players in the first 15 games of the season. To make matters worse they have lost five games in a row and are currently 5 ½ games back of the Oakland A’s for the lead in the A.L. West.

Houston Symphony Returns to the Stage w/ Livestream Series

The Houston Symphony announces its return to the stage with the concert series Live from Jones Hall—a new hour-long livestream from Jones Hall at 8 p.m. each Saturday night in July and Saturday, Aug. 1. Juneteenth Celebration: Emancipation Park Conservancy Hosting Two Weeks of Virtual Programming to Mark 148th Anniversary

Global community invited to participate in online programming that celebrates the legacy of African-Americans and history of the park

Emancipation Park Conservancy will host virtual programming and interactive activities beginning on June 8, 2020, and culminating on June 19, 2020, the Juneteenth Holiday. A blending of the words June and nineteenth, Juneteenth is the oldest known US celebration of the end of slavery and commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that slaves were emancipated in Texas.

Southwest Houston Church Offers Bags of Hope

With the U.S. unemployment rate at one of the highest in the nation’s history, more families are seeking help to meet those basic needs. Riceville Mount Olive Baptist Church (located at 11539 S. Gessner in Southwest Houston) will partner with State Representative Alma Allen (D131) and other local officials to provide over 600 boxes and bags of food for area residents on Saturday May 30th. Families will be able to drive through the Church’s parking lot to receive a “Bag of Hope” beginning at 10AM.

Overlay Scheduled for Oak Meadows Neighborhood

Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin is pleased to announce Houston Public Works will be performing an asphalt overlay project in the Oak Meadows subdivision. Construction is scheduled to begin tomorrow, May 15, and is expected to be completed by the middle of July 2020, weather permitting. The project is approximately $1,875,000 and will be paid for using dollars from the Dedicated Drainage and Street Renewal Fund.
