Obesity in Hispanic Adolescents Linked to Nearly Sixfold Increase in High Blood Pressure
Obesity raises the prevalence of high blood pressure among adolescents but the increase is particularly pronounced among Hispanics compared to white, African-American or Asian ethnic groups, according to a study by researchers at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Results were published in the journal Pediatrics.

The set up for Raoul Peck’s “I Am Not Your Negro” is reflective of the times. Baldwin, one of Black America’s foremost voices on race relations in the 1960s to the point he’s been lionized for all time is made to feel as if he’s speaking for the current. No less than five minutes into Peck’s film are we shown various scenes of anguish and protest from Ferguson, Missouri. It’s the film’s biggest allegory that Baldwin’s work, even when originally framed around the deaths of three of his friends can be echoed for all time.

Twelve small business owners will participate in the 2017 Class of Build Up Houston. Now in its 3rd year, Build Up Houston is the city’s executive education program that supports construction companies currently operating and doing business in the City of Houston. The program utilizes Interise’s award-winning StreetWise 'MBA'™ curriculum and will cover topics such as business development, strategic planning, access to capital, government contacts, financials, marketing and sales, and human resources. The Houston Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated presented 31 outstanding debutantes and seven stags to society at its 29th Biennial Debutante Ball at the Hilton Americas — Houston on Sunday, January 1, 2017. The president of the Houston Chapter is Mrs. Lisa Harris. Ms. Connie L. Cochran served as chairman and Mrs. Annette Bracey, Mrs. Erica Craven Fazande, Dr. Jocelyn Greely, and Ms. Colette Loeb served as co-chairmen. Melinda Spaulding, news anchor for KRIV Fox 26, and Dr. Austin Lane, president of Texas Southern University served as masters of ceremony. As each debutante was introduced to society, she was promenaded around the dance floor where she thanked her mother with a long stemmed red rose before performing sophisticated waltzes with her escort and father. Each stag was escorted by his mother as he was presented.
