On Sunday, May 6, H-E-B announced statewide winners of the 17th annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards during an awards ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Houston. During the ceremony, H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt personally handed out $430,000 in cash awards and grants, and congratulated eight educators, two school districts, one early childhood agency and a public school board for being among the best in Texas. Melinda Spaulding, news anchor for KRIV Fox 26, and Dr. Austin Lane, president of Texas Southern University served as masters of ceremony. As each debutante was introduced to society, she was promenaded around the dance floor where she thanked her mother with a long stemmed red rose before performing sophisticated waltzes with her escort and father. Each stag was escorted by his mother as he was presented.
