25 Black Women in Beauty celebrated their official launch with a private dinner at the Whitby Hotel, featuring some of the most powerful black female executives, entrepreneurs and influencers in the Beauty Industry today. The inaugural dinner, sponsored by Rémy Martin XO, featured moving introductions by each guest, innovative ideas for collaborations, and a commitment to continued growth and excellence in the field. Guests included Sarah Curtis-Henry, SVP & General Manager of Fresh; Sharon Chuter, founder of Uoma Beauty; Kahlana Barfield Brown, former fashion and beauty editor turned mega influencer; Karla Evans-Davis, Sr. Director of Integrated Marketing & Media at Ulta Beauty and former supermodel Veronica Webb, who was the first African-American model to land a major cosmetics contract.

Governor Abbott Appoints Ten to Texas Industrialized Building Code Council
Governor Greg Abbott yesterday appointed Stephen Shang and Roberto Lay-Su and reappointed Roland Brown, Scott McDonald, and Douglas Robinson to the Industrialized Building Code Council for terms set to expire on February 1, 2019. Additionally, he appointed Marcela Rhoads, Suzanne Arnold, and Brian Bailey and reappointed Randall Childers and W.F. “Dubb” Smith for terms set to expire on February 1, 2020. The council oversees the state program regulating industrialized housing and buildings.

Author Theresa J. Canada, herself part of the experiment, tells the story of the desegregation of PS 6—an elite New York City public school—through the narratives of seven of the girls who desegregated the school. While all of the names within each narrative have been changed, the book follows the author as well as the stories of her elementary school classmates.

HISTORY: Rosa Parks House in Berlin Returns Home to America
In a backyard in Berlin, a ramshackle house that was once a haven for the civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks is preparing for its third life — back in the United States. It had almost been lost to history, falling into blight, abuse and foreclosure, in Detroit. But in 2016, the American artist Ryan Mendoza shipped the dismantled facade in two containers to his home in Germany. There, it was restored as an art exhibit in his garden in the Wedding neighborhood.
