LA’s Historic Stilt Homes - As Seen In ‘Heat’

During the 1950s and ‘60s, about 1,500 stilt homes, designed to take advantage of hilly lots otherwise deemed “unbuildable,” were built in California. Seemingly gravity-defying, these homes were built on supporting stilts over which the home seems to float. One of the stilt homes was used as a shooting location for Michael Mann’s crime drama Heat, starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.

EEOC Issues Proposed Rule To Implement The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to implement the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). The NPRM was posted by the Federal Register for public inspection today and will be published for public comment in the Federal Register Aug. 11. Members of the public wishing to comment on the NPRM will have 60 days from the date of publication to do so through www.regulations.gov.

Construction Scheduled for Ramada Drive Safe Sidewalk Project

Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin is pleased to announce, in an effort to provide increased pedestrian mobility as well as safety, Houston Public Works will be making repairs to the sidewalk on the northern side of Ramada Drive from El Camino Real to Diana Lane. Major Intersection Closure at Kingwood Drive and Texas Loop 494

Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin would like to make Kingwood area residents aware, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be closing the intersection of Kingwood Drive and Texas Loop 494 on Friday, April 17 through Monday, April 20, weather permitting, for a roadway project. The scope of work includes removing the existing dip located at the existing railroad track by raising the intersection of Kingwood Drive and Tx Loop 494, two feet with asphalt.
