Going to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) had become an annual tradition for Jamila Lloyd. The New Jersey native loves any occasion where she gets to dress up and donning cowboys’ boots with a hat to match was just her thing. Throw in some good Texas BBQ and Lloyd was sold. While she was partying with her boots on, Lloyd learned of the many volunteer opportunities the rodeo offered and just had to apply. “I wanted to join because I love the mission and the overall objective, which is to provide scholarships to deserving students,” she said.

NBA Star Kevin Durant Invests $10 Million to Help Maryland Youth Get into and Graduate College

After the disaster that was Hurricane Harvey, Commissioner Grady Prestage and Fort Bend County officials discovered the Stafford Club was one of the many buildings suffering flood damage. Once the waters receded and the clean up began, workers found mold on and inside the Clubs walls which would mean the building would have to be closed, displacing more than 1,000 students who participate in its sports and academic programs.

Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE:LNC) announced today that its Financial Focus research study shows African Americans are more optimistic about their financial futures than any other race/ethnicity with 53 percent expecting significant personal financial improvements within the next five years—and despite a pay gap between white and black families, according to the Census Bureau’s 2017 Current Population Survey. Looking ahead just to 2018, African Americans are more optimistic than Caucasian Americans and Asian Americans, and are equally optimistic as Latino Americans: 34 percent of African Americans project their financial situation will get much better in 2018.
