Mayor's Turnaround Houston Initiative to Help Residents Get Job Ready Kicks Off Its First 2017 Event

Last year, the City of Houston, in collaboration with employers and various resource partners, connected to over 1,000 Houstonians through five job readiness events. Turnaround Houston, launched by Mayor Sylvester Turner, combines the elements of a job fair and a resource fair. The next Turnaround Houston Readiness Fair will take place Friday, May 12th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southwest Multi-Service Center, 6400 Highstar. Houstonians are invited to attend this community-based initiative designed to help connect them to vital resources, job readiness services and assist with eliminating potential barriers to employment.

Memorial Hermann Foundation celebrated the 30th anniversary of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital at its annual Circle of Life Gala on Saturday, April 29. The festive birthday “CELEBRATION”-themed event was held at the Hilton Americas-Houston and chaired by Memorial Hermann System Board members Diane and Bill Campbell and Elizabeth and Will Galtney. With more than 1,600 guests in attendance including KHOU’s Len Cannon as emcee, the gala raised $3.1 million to benefit Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital’s specialty programs and services.

Announce Roundtable In Brownsville, TX To Discuss Coordination And Response

Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Commissioner Dr. John Hellerstedt today sent a letter to County Judges and Mayors across the state asking for their continued assistance in combatting locally-transmitted Zika viruses in Texas. In the letter, the Governor and Commissioner laid out specific actions that can be taken by Texans to help prevent the spread of the virus, and reinforced the commitment of the DSHS to help coordinate response efforts and provide technical expertise to localities in their response to Zika.
