Public Comment Sought on Draft Houston Bike Plan Through April 11 Deadline

The City of Houston released the draft Houston Bike Plan for community feedback, the next step in the city's efforts to help make Houston a safer, healthier, and more accessible bicycle-friendly city. The Bike Plan integrates with the ongoing Bayou Greenways project and identifies additional bike facilities to safely access these attractive bikeway corridors from more neighborhoods. Once fully implemented, the plan will triple the existing bikeway miles and provide six times more high comfort bikeways miles than what exists now.

Update on Jungman Library Renovations

The J. Frank Jungman Neighborhood Library, located at 5830 Westheimer Rd., is currently undergoing a $6,788,000 major renovation under CIP # E-000047. The library was closed on June 2, 2014, and the project is now several months behind schedule. It is estimated to be within two months of substantial completion. Once the project reaches substantial completion, the building will be turned over to library staff to begin the "make-ready" for opening (moving in and setting up the books, equipment, furniture and computers). Ordinarily, make-ready takes about ten weeks.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold a public hearing on the proposed Loop 610 dedicated bus lane from I-10 (Northwest Transit Center) to Post Oak Blvd. The hearing will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2016, at the TxDOT Houston District Office Auditorium, located at 7600 Washington Ave., Houston, TX 77007. There will be an open house from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., where displays relating to the project will be available for view by the public, with the public hearing to begin at 6:30 P.M. TxDOT personnel will be available to meet with you prior to the public hearing to answer any questions that you may have or to review the proposed project with you.
