Highland Capital Management continues its support of the George W. Bush Presidential Center through a new $10 million endowment gift, announced today, which will help sustain the Bush Center’s series of public programs. Highland will become the presenting sponsor for the programming series, “Engage at the Bush Center, presented by Highland Capital Management,” which brings authors, thought leaders, and newsmakers to the Bush Center for lectures and discussions throughout the year. The joint announcement was made today by Bush Presidential Center CEO Kenneth Hersh and Jim Dondero, co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management.

Service Interruptions to Make Way for Marathon Runners
METRORail service will be interrupted in two areas on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, during the Chevron Houston Marathon. Rides on METRORail are FREE for both half and full marathon participants wearing a bib on race day. In addition to using a METRO Q Fare Card, anyone else can purchase a ticket from a smartphone with Q Mobile Ticketing or from a machine on a rail platform.

Finally, our Congress was able to move a significant form of law. It took a great while with immense controversy and debate. Congress, or should I say the Republican portion of Congress passed the long overdue tax reform. It is incredible that not one Democrat voted for the legislation. Apparently, the Dems have become out of touch with mainstream America. Who doesn’t want a tax decrease? Unbelievably the Democratic members of Capitol Hill refused to support such an attractive peace of legislation. What happened after it was passed and signed by President Trump? It was like the economical gates of “Heaven” opening to the joy of all Americans.

Lone Star College-Conroe Center Builds and Donates Furniture for Fire Training Facility
Welding students at Lone Star College-Conroe Center designed and built prop furniture and a prop appliance for the new seven-story City of Conroe Fire Training Facility. Students made a bed, table, chairs, sofa, coffee table, end tables and a refrigerator out of scrap metal. The donated props will help fire fighters learn how to search and maneuver around obstacles during fires.

The NAACP condemns the recent advertisement by H&M, which pictured a young Black child wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the label “the coolest monkey in the jungle,” as an unacceptable racist and derogatory action.
