City Schedules the Cleaning of Two Homeless Encampments This Week

A citywide group of employees and environmental contractors will be out in full force deep cleaning two homeless encampments this week, which have more than doubled since August, when a temporary restraining order was put in place to block the city’s anti-encampment ordinance. Members of the city representing health, general services, police, fire, and the Mayor’s Office will first visit the encampments and offer to store all personal possessions, before the cleanup takes place.

J.Crew Apologizes For Ad Featuring “All-Natural” Black Model With Uncombed Hair

A recent ad from J. Crew that featured Black Dominican model, Marihenny Rivera, with unkempt hair was heavily criticized on Black Twitter. The comments were basically saying that it is offensive for J.Crew to think that for a Black woman to go all-natural simply means that she doesn’t brush or comb her hair. The company, however, has released a public apology.

Heartbreaking! 3-Year Old Dies After Being Fed Grilled Cheese

Food allergies have taken another life! I am so sad to hear about Elijah Silvera. He was a 3-year old little boy who was a student at Seventh Avenue Center for Family Services in Harlem. Apparently he was given a grilled cheese sandwich on November 3, 2017 and he had a dairy allergy. According to abcnews.com Elijah’s mother was called instead of 911 and she had to drive him to the hospital. It is unknown if an Epi-pen was on site at the school. If this is true precious time had been wasted and ultimately the young man’s life was cut short.
