Capital One Bank Hit With Explosive Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Filed By the Houston NAACP and LULAC Claiming the Bank Discriminates Against Black and Latino Customers in Favor of White Customers
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Houston Branch (“NAACP”), League of United Latin American Citizens, District VIII (“LULAC”) and a former bank employee have filed a major federal racial discrimination lawsuit against Capital One Bank, a publicly-traded national bank. The suit alleges Capital One has engaged in a conscious and deliberate plan to close banks in Black and Latino communities while keeping banks in white communities.

Lexus Releases Extended Version of Super Bowl Spot with Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther”
As announced earlier this month, Lexus will once again be participating in advertising's biggest day of the year with a commercial in Super Bowl LII on Sunday, Feb. 4. Today, the brand has released a 60-second extended digital version of the ad, which was created in partnership with Marvel Studios' highly anticipated film "Black Panther," opening in U.S. theaters Feb. 16. The spot, "Long Live the King," pairs the flagship luxury performance sedan 2018 Lexus LS 500 F SPORT with the Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman, and can be viewed here. A 30-second version of the ad will air during the third quarter of the Super Bowl.

Something highly unusual happened at 8:00AM on Monday morning, January 29. Nearly 200 pastors and faith leaders made their way to Vic and Anthony’s 5 Star Restaurant, in downtown Houston. Why? They gathered to affirm their intensified support for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. The veteran incumbent finds herself with an opponent as she seeks re-election to the seat she has now held for blank years. This group of faith leaders are not taking anything for granted. The event was co-chaired by two of Houston’s prominent clergy personalities. Bishop James Dixon of The Community of Faith Church, and Dr. Ralph D. West of The Church Without Walls.

Dr. Samuel Axelrad is a Houston author, retired urologist and Vietnam War veteran who recently published a memoir titled Peaceful Bones. Dr. Axelrad's memoir illustrates his time in Vietnam as an army surgeon during the Vietnam war where he finds himself helping not only American soldiers but hundreds of Vietnamese citizens both wounded and ill.

Governor Greg Abbott today named Andrew Oldham as General Counsel to the Governor following the appointment of Jimmy Blacklock to the Texas Supreme Court. The NFL named Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson the AFC Offensive Player of the Month and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October. Watson is the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to win AFC Offensive Player of the Month and joins Barry Sanders (1989), Edgerrin James (1999), Mike Anderson (2000) and Kareem Hunt (2017) as the only rookies to win the award.

Peaceful Bones is about one special patient named Hung Nguyen aka "Charlie" who becomes an unlikely friend on the battlefield. Dr. Axelrad saves Charlie's life, forging a bond that crosses cultural and enemy lines.

Home Cooking: Houston Texans Defeat the Cleveland Browns
The Houston Texans got a much needed victory this past Sunday at NRG stadium by defeating the Cleveland Browns 33-17. The Texans got back to their winning ways and got a week off before heading to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. They will need the additional time to get healthy and adjust to the injuries they have suffered on the defensive side of the ball (Whitney Mercilus and JJ Watt are out for the season).
