President Trump announced last night that he will end subsidies to health insurance companies that help 7 million low-income Americans pay out-of-pocket costs. Earlier in the day, he signed an executive order to overhaul federal health regulations that will result in fewer protections for the most vulnerable Americans and will encourage the creation of health insurance plans that provide fewer benefits and fewer protections.

The set up for Raoul Peck’s “I Am Not Your Negro” is reflective of the times. Baldwin, one of Black America’s foremost voices on race relations in the 1960s to the point he’s been lionized for all time is made to feel as if he’s speaking for the current. No less than five minutes into Peck’s film are we shown various scenes of anguish and protest from Ferguson, Missouri. It’s the film’s biggest allegory that Baldwin’s work, even when originally framed around the deaths of three of his friends can be echoed for all time.

Service Interruptions to Make Way for Marathon Runners

METRORail service will be interrupted in two areas on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, during the Chevron Houston Marathon. Rides on METRORail are FREE for both half and full marathon participants wearing a bib on race day. In addition to using a METRO Q Fare Card, anyone else can purchase a ticket from a smartphone with Q Mobile Ticketing or from a machine on a rail platform.
