Lone Star College-Conroe Center Builds and Donates Furniture for Fire Training Facility

Welding students at Lone Star College-Conroe Center designed and built prop furniture and a prop appliance for the new seven-story City of Conroe Fire Training Facility. Students made a bed, table, chairs, sofa, coffee table, end tables and a refrigerator out of scrap metal. The donated props will help fire fighters learn how to search and maneuver around obstacles during fires.

The NAACP condemns the recent advertisement by H&M, which pictured a young Black child wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the label “the coolest monkey in the jungle,” as an unacceptable racist and derogatory action.

Mother Allegedly Left Her 3 Children in the Car With Freezing Temperatures While She Shopped at Walmart

A mother in Kentucky was arrested after she left her three children in a cold car with 15-degree temperature while she was shopping at Walmart. The police responded to the area following the concerned customers who saw the children. A four-year-old, twenty-month-old, and six-month-old were found inside an unlocked car with windows partially rolled down.

Black-Owned Tech Firm Sues Kaiser Permanente Over Patent Infringement

Better Life Technologies Group, Inc., a small African-American technology company focusing on wireless wearable technologies, has sued Kaiser Permanente for $50 million, claiming the medical giant stole its trade secrets on wearable medical devices and shared them with its competitors which in its view may have contributed to the birth of a $30 billion dollar industry which focuses on wireless-wearable wellness communications between physicians and patients. Better Life’s issued patent US 8,659,432 B2 covers human monitoring in aquatic environments and patient monitoring applications in hospitals and homes.

Astros to Host Houston Winter Invitational in February

Tickets on sale now for six-team, nine-game tournament from Feb. 2-4

Tickets for the sixth annual Houston Winter Invitational, which will be held at Minute Maid Park from Feb. 2-4, are available for purchase online now. Martinville Drive Roadway Pavement Replacement Schedule

Houston City Council Member Dave Martin would like to announce that repairs are scheduled to begin along Martinville Drive today, January 8, 2018. The scope of work includes the replacement of existing pavement with new asphalt concrete pavement as well as ditch regrading. Construction is anticipated to be completed by early Spring 2019.
