Texans Coach Holds Pre-Draft Press Conference to Address Hopkins Trade and Team Needs in the 2020 NFL Draft
A lot has transpired since we last heard from Houston Texans head coach and General Manager, Bill O’ Brien. In what has become the new normal in the sports world due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, coach O’Brien held a pre-draft press conference and answered questions from the media via the Zoom app. The audio also streamed out to the fans through the Texans social media pages so that they could hear his responses in real time.

Sometimes life comes at you very hard and very fast. It is something you wish you could control, but I have learned that it is something you can’t. For the Houston Texans, they are trying to do their best to just get out of the whirlwind that this early 2020 NFL season has them in. Houston (0-3) dropped their third game of the season to the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0) losing in Heinz Field by a score of 28-21.

In high school, I had the opportunity to play against Mike Miller from Willowridge High School that went on to play college football at Notre Dame and professionally for the Cleveland Browns. Here I was a pretty decent player matched up against an All American. Once the ball was snapped he came towards me with that blazing 4.1 speed and I immediately turned to try and run with him. The ball was thrown high and short.

Greinke Wins Astros Debut 11-6 Over the Rockies
RHP Zack Greinke made his Astros’ debut in front of the largest crowd in attendance for a game this year (43,243) at Minute Maid Park and gave the fans a sample size of what they can expect heading towards the end of the season and into the playoffs. Although Greinke allowed five earned runs, three coming off of a homerun in the top of the sixth inning, he pitched a very efficient game.

Now I don’t know how spiritual Rockets Head Coach Stephen Silas is, but if I have to take an educated guess, I will say that he has done some praying in his alone time or maybe even on the bench during this current 18-game losing streak which is also a franchise record.

2020 Disappointment, Brings Astros Joy In 2021
Fast forward to 2021, and it looked as if the Astros would find themselves on the losing end of another ALCS. The Boston Red Sox had all the momentum, as they led the best-of-seven series 2-1 at home and headed towards a commanding 3-1 lead before a solo home run by Jose Altuve in the top of the eighth inning of Game 4 tied the game. That seemed to awaken the Astros bats as they would score seven more runs in the next inning and even the series at two games apiece.

During their run towards “Back to Back” NBA titles, the Houston Rockets ran into some serious trouble against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Semifinals. Houston went down in that series 3-1 and was on the brink of elimination in Game 5. The overall theme from the head coach all the way down to the last player on the bench was to take it one game at a time. Don’t jump ahead. Just win the game you are playing, and you will earn the chance to play another one with the same opportunity.

Maybe it is time for the Houston Texans organization to read the instruction manual on how to assemble a good team. During this bye-week, the team and its upper management need to figure out what they want their identity to be going forward.
