High School State Honoree: Zane Magee Nominated by Montgomery High School in Montgomery

Zane Magee, 17, of Montgomery and Caroline Wells, 14, of Tyler today were named Texas' top two youth volunteers of 2018 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. As State Honorees, Zane and Caroline each will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in late April to Washington, D.C., where they will join the top two honorees from each of the other states and the District of Columbia for four days of national recognition events. During the trip, 10 students will be named America’s top youth volunteers of 2018.

Parents Arrested For Beating Their 4-Year Old Son to Death… Over Spilled Cereal!

— A mother and her boyfriend were arrested after beating her 4-year-old son to death for spilling cereal. Lisa Smith, 19 years old, and Keiff King, 26 years old, were charged with aggravated assault, attempted murder, and other related charges.

Latinos Demonstrate Against the Chronic Underrepresentation of Latinos in the Film Industry

At the February 5 Oscars® Nominees Luncheon held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the National Hispanic Media Coalition's (NHMC) Action Network held the first of two demonstrations targeting studio film executives attending the very visible Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences events. The demonstrations launch a national campaign protesting the chronic underrepresentation of Latinos in on-screen and behind-the-camera roles in motion pictures. A second demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, a time and location to be announced in the coming weeks.

Having seen the movie by director Tyler Perry, I knew what I was in store for but I was not prepared for how deep the cast would dive into their roles.

Semi-trucks Filled with 1.2 Million Packages of Girl Scout Cookies Roll into Houston February 10

It’s the day Girl Scout cookie lovers have been waiting for. Girl Scout Cookies are rolling into southeast Texas beginning Saturday, February 10. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sam Houston Race Park, hundreds of Girl Scout volunteers will be unloading more than 1.2 million packages of Girl Scout Cookies from dozens of semi-trucks that will line the event park. The cookies will be delivered to customers in the following days by Girl Scouts who took pre-orders in January.
