Many from around the world came to Houston, Texas to say a final goodbye to George Floyd
As I walked inside of the Fountain of Praise sanctuary where the public memorial for George Floyd was being held, a cold, eerie, and chilling feeling came over my body. It caused me to take a pause stopping me in my tracks before I took my next step. I began to replay the audio from the murderous video of the tragic day that Floyd died in an almost nine-minute encounter in my mind.

I remember it like it was yesterday. June 25, 2009, I was standing in the checkout line at the Shopette in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In my basket were candy, chips, and other products I had been tasked to get for the rest of the soldiers that were in basic training with me. Was I supposed to be there? No. But we can talk about that at a later date. As I stood in line trying not to be seen by the drill sergeants, my eyes happened to catch a glance at what was being shown on the television. Pop Icon and music legend, Michael Jackson, had passed away due to health complications.

Who knew that the 2021 NBA Draft would turn out to be the “Fountain of Youth” for the Houston Rockets as they selected four players all of which are 19 years old and younger. Add that to the four players they already have under the age of 25. Head Coach Stephen Silas and General Manager Rafael Stone are building a foundation that could take the Houston Rockets back to the playoffs after finishing a dismal 16-53 season.

Houston Rockets first-year head coach Stephen Silas has been repeatably saying to his team over the last two weeks that he has wanted them to come out and be more aggressive in the first quarter of games. A new era of Houston Rockets basketball was ushered in on Friday night as new head coach Stephen Silas made his coaching debut against the Chicago Bulls. Houston played its first preseason game in Chicago and left coach Silas with a smile on his face as they defeated the Bulls 125-104.

One phrase that never gets old throughout the city of Houston is, “Ten Toes Down.” Now I know some of you all are not familiar with it and others are reading this saying, “I have used that ever since I was a kid.” The phrase literally means that no matter what a person goes through, they will always have both feet planted on the ground ready to take on any adversity that may come their way. I am almost certain that the Houston Texans have uttered that sentence more than once this year and probably will make it a rally cry heading into the final weeks of the 2020 NFL season.

On Tuesday night the Houston Rockets got a chance to do something they have not been able to do this entire season and that was to have fun. They defeated the visiting Washington Wizards 107-88 at Toyota Center to improve to 7-9 and are now on a three-game winning streak.

The Merriman-Webster dictionary defines an Aha moment as a sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension and nothing makes a coach feel jubilated, then when his players experience it for the first time. For Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas, he could see it coming for his team in spurts as multiple lineups caused certain players to have the moment at certain times. Now with a healthy lineup it seems as if everyone who has touches the floor for the Rockets is having them.

An old cliché that has been used for centuries is, “Taking someone to the woodshed.” It’s an expression referred to the former practice of taking a naughty or disobedient child to the woodshed to be punished. On Thursday night the Toyota Center turned into the proverbial “Woodshed” as Houston (3-1) defeated San Antonio (0-3) by a score of 128-106 behind a brilliant performance by center Christian Wood.
