Texas Southern University continues to be a leader in the progression towards criminal justice reform. The historically black college and university recently announced the establishment of the Center for Justice Research or CJR. The center is the latest in an initiative designed to produce innovative solutions to criminal justice reform and address challenges in America’s criminal justice system.

EPA Releases Superfund Redevelopment Focus List; Includes MDI Site in Houston

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its initial list of Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) sites with the greatest expected redevelopment and commercial potential. The list includes the Many Diversified Interests, Inc., (MDI) site in Houston, a former foundry that was removed from the NPL in 2010.

Hazardous road conditions are forcing METRO bus services to remain suspended through the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. With overnight temperatures expected to stay well below freezing, driving conditions will continue to be treacherous.

Alert #4: Dangerous Road Conditions Force Suspension of Evening METRO Bus Service

METRO is suspending all bus services beginning at 5:30 p.m. today until further notice due to dangerous road conditions. As ice accumulates on several area roadways, it is becoming more difficult to provide services. Safety is our top priority for passengers and employees, and we will resume services only when it is safe to do so.

Alert #3: METRO Limiting Afternoon/Evening Service Due to Winter Storm

METRO will be curtailing local bus route service this afternoon as officials continue to advise everyone to stay off the roads due to dangerous, icy conditions. Beginning at 2 p.m. today, frequent routes will run every 30 minutes. Other routes will run approximately every hour. METRORail is also experiencing delays as a result of the winter storm. There are several bus shuttles on portions of the Green and Purple Lines.

Alert #2: Midday Park & Ride Service Added to Accommodate Riders

METRO is adding more midday Park & Ride services to help riders who want to make earlier return trips. The routes listed below will begin picking up for return trips at Noon and will run about every 30 minutes.

Public participation in school district governance through school boards and local Parent Teacher Associations is vital to the success of our schools. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Senator Garcia encourages everyone to contact their local ISD office to find out more about getting involved in the school district decision making process.
